the act or process of nourishing or of being nourished.

Why exactly does the body need nutrition? Can the body not do without proper nutrition, and can we load it up with anything we want to put in?

Proper nutrition supports the body's vital functions, and we need it for good growth. Poor nutrition affects our growth, especially children.

Our body's immunity is tied to a proper diet. When we don't give the body the right kind of nutrition, we allow our bodies to be susceptible to all manner of attacks because we have not built up proper immunity.

When Our immunity is up, our bodies can fend off different diseases that try to attack them. The body's need for good nourishment is essential. As we have all witnessed in the past two years, the world has been under attack from the coronavirus. The importance of a healthy body can not be overemphasised.

Our central nervous system also needs us to be well-nourished for it to perform its duties properly.

So what exactly would we say good nourishment is? Would we mean going on all fruits and vegetables or just going with the latest diet fad that promises great shape but leaves out so much of what the body needs?

We are talking about eating well-balanced meals with proteins, vegetables, fruits, and good complex carbohydrates. And let's not forget water, very essential to the body's overall health.

So why so much emphasis on good nutrition? Well, for one, it promotes wellbeing, the overall health of the body.

It helps us maintain reasonable body weight. It is said that some of the more terrible diseases out there are due to poor choices when it comes to our eating habits. So a little change here and there can work wonders for your figure and also your health.

We live in days where people are always on the move, there is always something going on, and people need to be in different places sometimes all at once, that takes a lot of energy, and fast food only saps the power you need, because to digest the food takes so long. Eating right reduces the amount of time it takes for food to digest, and it gives the body the right kind of fuel it needs to help it accomplish what needs doing.

Yes, we will say what you have heard probably a million times, eat more fruits and vegetables. That is an excellent place to start, and it is easier than you think. It's the little things that become the big things. Starting with an apple a day sounds cliche, but it truly is an excellent place to start. Add on more stuff as you go along, and before you know it, you have at least one plate full of vegetables and fruits each day.

Try to limit processed foods. It's not that easy; we get it, work, school, and housework and everything that is vying for your attention; how will you have the time to make wholesome meals. These days we have companies that do subscription food boxes, they sell fresh food, and it is prepped and ready to be cooked and eaten in minutes.

Have a plan for your meals; even if you start with one meal, plan it. It could be breakfast, or your lunch, even if it means switching what you have at the cafe when you are on your lunch break. Plan that meal and see the difference it will make.

Choose whole grains and healthy fats. Yes, there is such a thing as healthy fats. You get those from oily fish, grains and nuts. They are suitable for you because the body does need fat. Check the kind of oils you cook with; that is also a good thing to do.
